March 4th, 2008 — Stefan Moore
Stefan Moore has signed with English League One side Walsall F.C.
The striker had a two-week trial with the Melbourne Victory but obviously failed to impress enough – despite scoring twice in a friendly against the Whittlesea Zebras. The official word at the time of Moore’s return to England was that the club would try out a few more foreign players before making any commitments. But it seemed pretty clear that Moore signing with Melbourne was highly unlikely.
February 22nd, 2008 — Melbourne Victory, Stefan Moore, Transfers
Stefan Moore has gone back to England after a two-week trial with the Melbourne Victory. While he certainly made his case by scoring twice against the Whittlesea Zebras last week, the club has not yet decided whether to sign him. And it looks like they won’t make a decision until June.
According to the club, they want to trial several other foreign players before putting pen to paper. While this is definitely a much more thorough approach then last year’s “watch a DVD and sign him” method, it is also risky. Suffice it to say that Moore won’t be sitting around till June hoping that Melbourne decides to sign him.
February 5th, 2008 — Asian Champions League, Leandro Love, Melbourne Victory, Stefan Moore, Transfers
Stefan Moore, a 24-year old English striker with experience playing for Aston Villa, is coming to Melbourne this week for a two-week trial.
Moore captained Aston Villa’s youth team when it won the 2002 FA Youth Cup, and has been very highly rated. According to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, “Moore was rated by many as a better prospect than Wayne Rooney.”
But it never quite happened for Moore. After a series of loans, he eventually moved to Queens Park Rangers in 2005. So just a few months after Nick Ward left QPR behind, he may be joined in Melbourne by a former team mate.
Of course, if Melbourne does sign Moore, that means that two of its current visa players will be left out of the mix for the Asian Champions League. Last week, indications were that Leandro Love would be one of the three. But with another striker on board (as well as Nathan Elasi), Love may once again be pushed out of the squad.
