August 23rd, 2007 — Archie Thompson, Melbourne Victory, Players, videos
Archie Thompson needs no introduction.
In his two years with the Melbourne Victory, he’s scored 23 times.
Five of those goals came on February 18, 2007, in the 6 – 0 thrashing of Adelaide United.
An equally memorable occasion for the striker came in April, 2001, when Archie became the world record holder for goals scored in an international match. He scored 13 goals that day, helping the Socceroos to a 31 – 0 win.
His place in Melbourne Victory history is established.

The way I see it, we have 2 options:
1. Sign this kid.
2. Make our strikers watch this video.
July 13th, 2007 — Grant Brebner, Melbourne Victory, Players, videos
Together with captain Kevin Muscat, Grant Brebner makes up Melbourne’s muscle in midfield. Like Muscat, Brebner has age and wisdom on his side, closing in on his thirtieth birthday this year. Since joining Melbourne at the start of last season, he has been a compelling presence, proving a vital lifeline to Victory strikers – one which was painfully lacking in the inaugural A League season.
July 10th, 2007 — Kaz Patafta, Melbourne Victory, Players, videos
He’s just 18, but Kaz Patafta’s credentials read like someone at least… 1 1/2 years older.
In 2004, he received a scholarship to study with the Australian Institute of Sport; in 2005, he led the Joeys during the World Championships for under-17s; in 2006, he joined Benfica’s B team, trained with the Socceroos before the World Cup, and eventually played his first game for Benfica’s 1st team in August; and now, he’s joined the Melbourne Victory on a 1-year loan.
July 7th, 2007 — Kevin Muscat, Melbourne Victory, Players, videos
Kevin Muscat. It’s hard to imagine the Melbourne Victory without Kevin. He is known for fierce tackles, a fiery temper and a perfect penalty-kick record.
Before moving to Crystal Palace (England) in 1996, Muscat played football for a number of Victorian clubs in the old NSL, including Heidelberg United and South Melbourne F.C. When he moved to the UK, he quickly earned himself a reputation as a hard player. Martin Grainger of Birmingham City even went so far as to call him the “most hated man in football”. Maybe so, but Muscat’s skills as a footballer saw him spend 9 seasons in the UK, playing for Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, Rangers F.C. and Millwall F.C. He captained Millwall to the FA Cup Final in 2004 – a game he missed due to injury.
June 30th, 2007 — Archie Thompson, Friendlies, Melbourne Victory, videos
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to catch last week’s friendly against South Melbourne. But never fear, the Melbourne Victory website has posted up great videos of the goals for those of you who were also not able to make it to the game. Check them out there, or enjoy the slightly less refined version from YouTube below:

OK, so he didn’t score 5 goals in the one game – settling for a measly 2 – but I have to say that Archie’s 2nd goal was phenomenal. Notice that he dribbled from the half way line? Bloody ripper, if you ask me.
June 11th, 2007 — Carlos Hernandez, Melbourne Victory, videos
A little digging on YouTube and I found a collection of videos of Carlos Hernández, Melbourne’s latest recruit (at least that’s what Costa Rican press is reporting). Amongst them is this rather worrying video:

I guess Hernández won’t be replacing Muscat as penalty-taker any time soon.
It’s not all bad though. Check out the following video, demonstrating exactly why Hernández is the kind of recruit that would very easily slot into the Melbourne squad.

Can you imagine the Telstra Dome after a strike like that?
